Senior IPS officer M K Sinha on Friday took charge as the new Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Jammu and Kashmir, succeeding Nitish Kumar, who has been transferred and posted as ADG Armed Police J&K.Soon after assuming charge, Sinha held a meeting with senior officers of CID headquarters and reviewed the overall functioning of the department, including its intelligence-related responsibilities.
He was briefed on the functioning of various wings and ongoing work, officials said.
Sinha, a 1996-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, was serving as ADG Headquarters at Police Headquarters, J&K, before his latest posting.

He had held the ADG Headquarters assignment since May 2021 and was also given additional charge of the Security Service Group (SSG) J&K in June 2023.
His appointment as ADG CID comes as part of a major reshuffle of the J&K Police administration ordered by the Home Department on August 27, involving 14 senior IPS and JK Police Service officers.
The reshuffle also saw Nitish Kumar, a 1999-batch IPS officer, moved from ADG CID and Director, State Investigation Agency (SIA), to ADG Armed Police J&K. Sinha brings with him extensive experience in policing, intelligence, investigation and administration.

During his career in Jammu and Kashmir, he has served in several important field and headquarters assignments.
Among his earlier postings were SDPO Samba, SSP Border Jammu, officiating SSP Jammu, SSP Rajouri, SSP Vigilance Jammu, SSP Kathua and AIG Telecom and Information at Police Headquarters. He subsequently served as DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range and DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range.
He served as IGP Jammu Zone from December 2018 before moving on to other senior assignments. Prior to his promotion to the ADG rank, he served as IGP Crime, J&K.

Sinha also has significant experience on central deputation.He served in the Cabinet Secretariat.
The J&K government had sought his repatriation in late 2018, following which he returned to J&K and was appointed IGP Jammu Zone.Sinha is also a National Defence College course graduate and was awarded the gold medal for the best thesis, reflecting his experience in strategic and security-related matters.
He was empanelled in 2024 for ADG-level posts at the Centre.
As ADG CID, Sinha will oversee one of the key components of the J&K Police security architecture, with the department playing an important role in intelligence gathering, analysis and coordination with other security and law-enforcement agencies.The CID also works closely with various agencies on matters concerning internal security, counter-terrorism investigations and the assessment of emerging security threats.
