The University of Kashmir has been awarded an A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its latest re-accreditation cycle.
According to a statement issued by KU, it is the first higher educational institution in Jammu & Kashmir to be assessed under NAAC’s revised accreditation framework. The University secured a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.68, the highest in its history.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan said the grade reflects the efforts of the university community and added that KU is working towards aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. She said the university mobilised Rs 112 crore in research grants and introduced flexible degree programmes.Kashmir traditional clothing
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated the University for securing the A++ grade in the recent NAAC re-accreditation cycle.

During the assessment period, the University undertook steps such as restoring the academic calendar, conducting timely examinations, and introducing a single-window clearance system. It has also integrated with the National Academic Depository (NAD) for digital access to student records.
The NAAC Peer Team, consisting of seven members, carried out its evaluation from May 29 to May 31, 2025. The team reviewed research, student services, infrastructure, and IT-enabled systems. They noted the implementation of NEP 2020 initiatives, including the Design Your Own Degree programme and courses in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
NAAC also cited KU’s use of DigiLocker and its entrepreneurship initiatives under the New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (NewGen IEDC). The Student Satisfaction Survey recorded a 78% satisfaction rate.
The university was assessed on several criteria, including infrastructure, curriculum, teaching and learning, research and extension, governance, student support, and institutional practices.
This is KU’s fourth NAAC accreditation cycle. The University previously received Grade ‘A’ in 2002 and 2011, and Grade ‘A+’ in 2019.
The Peer Team also reviewed KU’s budgeting system, fund mobilisation, decision-making structure, and library automation.
On research, KU has recorded over 3,300 publications, 22 granted patents, and support for more than 87 grassroots innovations. It has also received funding of over ?112 crore.
KU hosts two Centres of Excellence: one in Himalayan Biodiversity (UGC) and another in Glaciology (DST), along with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovations (CIRI).
The University has undertaken outreach activities such as training programmes for women, awareness drives on menstrual hygiene, and urban resilience efforts.
KU operates campuses at Hazratbal, Zakura, Delina Baramulla, and Anantnag, offering academic and physical infrastructure including smart classrooms, laboratories, a fully automated library, a convocation complex, and facilities for differently-abled students.
The A++ grade follows efforts by the university leadership, staff, students, and associated stakeholders.
