The higher reaches of Gumri and Zojila in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the season’s first snowfall, signalling a shift towards colder conditions in the high-altitude areas of central Kashmir.Snow was reported across the mountain peaks and upper reaches of the Gumri and Zojila sectors, covering parts of the landscape in white.

The snowfall coincided with a fall in temperatures at higher elevations, with conditions turning colder than in the plains. It also brought a noticeable change to the terrain along the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Zojila axis.

The development is being closely watched as the Zojila sector forms a key high-altitude link between Kashmir and Ladakh. Any further intensification of snowfall could result in a further fall in temperatures and affect movement on roads in the higher reaches.

Commuters and authorities are expected to monitor weather and road conditions in the Zojila area as the season’s weather pattern begins to change.
