The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department has directed its field offices to seize commercial vehicles that have completed 25 years of age and register FIRs against those found operating on public roads.Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan appealed to owners of such vehicles to voluntarily scrap them in accordance with the applicable regulations.

In a post on X, Mahajan said commercial vehicles that had reached the prescribed 25-year age limit should be scrapped, while directing the concerned field offices to take enforcement action against vehicles continuing to ply on roads.

Officials have been instructed to seize overage commercial vehicles and lodge FIRs wherever they are found in operation, according to the directions.

Mahajan said the enforcement action was intended to address road safety concerns and prevent vehicles that had crossed the prescribed age limit from continuing in public service.

The department has asked commercial vehicle owners to comply with the applicable norms and scrap vehicles that have completed 25 years to avoid seizure and legal action.
