Two persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident in the Sarthal area of Bani tehsil in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.An official said the accident occurred when a vehicle carrying five persons met with an accident in Sarthal.

Two occupants died in the accident, while three others sustained injuries and were shifted to Bani Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma after receiving a call from Bani MLA Dalip Singh Parihar regarding the accident.

In a post on X, Singh said he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner and was informed that three of the five passengers had been injured and shifted to Bani Hospital, while two others had lost their lives.

He said appropriate medical assistance was being provided to the injured and expressed condolences to the families of those who died. Singh added that his office remained in touch with the district administration.

The deceased and injured are believed to be residents of Bhaderwah in Doda district. Their identities and further details are awaited.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings.
