In a major heroin seizure, the Amritsar Rural police in Punjab allegedly busted a cross-border smuggling racket with the arrest of a person and recovered 30 kg of heroin from him on Friday.

Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, identified the arrested accused as Gursimranjit Singh alias Simran, a resident of Basarke Gillan in Gharindha, Amritsar.

Police teams also impounded the Ford Fiesta car in which the consignment was being delivered and registered a case under sections 21(c) and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.Charanjit Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar Rural, said that based on intelligence inputs, police teams led by the Station House Officer (SHO), Gharinda stopped the car for checking and found four packets of heroin, weighing 7.5 kg each, in a black bag. More arrests are likely in the case, he added.

DGP Yadav said Singh was involved in large-scale heroin smuggling and he had reportedly received a large consignment from across the border recently. The investigation has indicated that Pakistan-based smugglers used drones to transport the drug consignment, he added.
