The Jammu & Kashmir Police in collaboration with J&K Forest Department, organized a tree plantation drive to mark the celebration of Van Mahotsav at the GO’s Mess, Jammu. Held under the aegis of the Green J&K Drive Initiative of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, the event aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and ecological awareness among officials and the general public.
Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also present were Pradeep Chandra Wahule, IFS, Conservator of Forests, CF East Circle, Jammu; DIG IR/ARP Jammu, Sh Vinod Kumar, IPS; DIG JSK Range, Sh Shiv Kumar Sharma IPS; SSP Jammu, Sh Joginder Singh, JKPS; SO to IGP Jammu, Sh Shamsheer Hussain, JKPS; DSP Estates, Sh Rajesh Anand, JKPS and senior officers of the J&K Forest Department, including Sh Ashwani Kumar, SFS, DFO, Urban Division, along with other police and civil officials. Their presence reflected the commitment of multiple government departments towards environmental protection.
IGP Jammu noted that forest cover not only contributes to ecological stability but is also essential for combating the adverse effects of climate change. He encouraged all attendees to actively participate in afforestation initiatives and to treat every sapling as a symbol of commitment to future generations.
Officers from the Forest Department shared the objectives of the Green JK Drive Initiative, underscoring the importance of the Van Mahotsav week in enhancing green cover and mobilizing community engagement. Various species of saplings native to the region were planted at the GO’s Mess premises as part of the ceremonial drive. The CF and DFO were also presented with memento as a token of gratitude and the Forest Department expressed gratitude to the J&K Police for their support and hospitality. The event at GO’s Mess stood as a shining example of how institutional collaboration can further the cause of environmental stewardship.
