In a significant development for Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo is likely to get an extension in service, according to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Dulloo, the incumbent Chief Secretary of J&K, is presently scheduled to complete his tenure in October 2026. Sources indicate that the Government of India is considering an extension, which, if approved, would provide continuity at the highest level of the UT’s administration.

The possible extension is being viewed positively in J&K, particularly because Dulloo belongs to the Union Territory and has considerable administrative experience and a strong understanding of local issues. His continuation is also expected to ensure greater continuity in policy formulation and implementation at a time when the Centre’s focus on development and administrative transformation in J&K continues.

Dulloo has also often been seen as an important link between the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the elected government, helping facilitate coordination on administrative matters and ensuring that public grievances and issues are taken up for timely resolution.

His continuation could therefore provide stability and administrative continuity at a crucial juncture for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly as several major development and governance initiatives are under implementation.

The formal order regarding the extension, if approved, is expected to be issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
