Acting tough against violations of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, Ganderbal Police carried out a comprehensive inspection of hotels in the Sonamarg area and registered cases against three establishments for failing to submit details of foreign guests to the authorities within the stipulated time.

The inspection drive, conducted under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), revealed that Hotel Mount View, Hotel Imperial Resort, and Hotel Village Walk were hosting foreign tourists without furnishing their details to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) as required under Section 17 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.Taking cognizance of the violations, Police Station Sonamarg registered three separate FIRs — FIR No. 25/2025, 26/2025, and 27/2025 — under Section 8/23(b) of the Act against the hotel owners for non-compliance with statutory obligations.

A police spokesperson said that the district police are maintaining strict oversight of establishments accommodating foreign nationals to ensure full adherence to immigration laws.

“Hotel and guesthouse owners must strictly follow the guidelines and ensure timely submission of guest details to the FRO to avoid legal consequences,” the spokesperson cautioned.

The Ganderbal Police reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing laws in letter and spirit, maintaining transparency, and ensuring accountability within the hospitality sector, particularly in tourist destinations like Sonamarg.
