Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that his mission in Jammu and Kashmir from the very beginning has been to improve the lives of people, eradicate discrimination and dismantle the terror ecosystem, while ensuring that government schemes reach the most disadvantaged sections of society.Addressing the Constitution Day celebrations in Jammu, the LG led the Preamble reading and paid tributes to the founding fathers and architects of the Constitution. He said the Constitution has been a guiding force for the country for 76 years, upholding equity, liberty and social justice for all citizens.
Calling upon policymakers and officers to remain committed to constitutional values, the LG said the Constitution has paved the way for India’s progress and continues to inspire national unity, integrity and self-confidence. He said every effort must be made to strengthen the country and make it self-reliant.
The LG said that after a wait of 67 years, all provisions of the Constitution were made fully applicable to Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, ending what he described as decades of discrimination and injustice. He said the region is now moving ahead on the ideals of equity and social and economic justice laid down by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
Responding to critics who question what has changed in the last five years, the LG said the practice of rewarding separatists and targeting patriots has stopped completely. He said the full implementation of constitutional provisions under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured honour, pride and dignity for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir.
The UT level event marking 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution was organised by the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. It was attended by the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, senior officials, prominent citizens and a large number of youth.
