Direct contact with people helps create a feeling of safety and inclusion, especially in areas that have suffered from years of conflict, said Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Sunday as he visited the Lolab Valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The DGP’s visit to this remote and sensitive area near the Line of Control (LoC) was seen as a powerful signal of the administration’s renewed focus on grassroots engagement and lasting peace.“The visit made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for terrorism and violence, and that the administration is serious about ensuring lasting peace in every part of the Union Territory,” said a statement.
During his visit, DGP Prabhat reviewed the law-and-order situation, assessed on-ground security arrangements, and boosted the morale of police personnel stationed in the area. He was accompanied by senior officers, including SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani.
Locals warmly welcomed the top cop, calling it a “positive and historic step.” Many residents said it was the first time in years they felt truly seen and heard by someone of such senior rank.
The visit is important as direct contact with people helps create a feeling of safety and inclusion, especially in areas that have suffered from years of conflict. The visit marks a new approach in Kashmir’s security strategy. It includes both strong vigilance and real connection with the people, he said.
