The Bharatiya Janata Party has passed the resolution today for the  "preservation of the honour and glorious heritage of Vande Mataram". The BJP's resolution condemned the decision of the Congress Working Committee on August 19, 2026, reaffirming its 1937 resolution limiting the singing of only the first two stanzas of "Vande Mataram" at Congress functions. The BJP regards "Vande Mataram" as India's national song, an expression of devotion to Mother India, the mantra of the freedom struggle, and an immortal symbol of India's national consciousness, the party said in a post on X.

BJP strongly condemned the Congress Working Committee's decision to limit the singing of Vande Mataram to the first two verses, reiterating its 1937 resolution  
To uphold the honour and dignity of Vande Mataram and consider it as the national song of India, an immortal symbol of national consciousness and a glorious legacy of the freedom struggle '
To affirm the constitutional and statutory status of Vande Mataram as established by the Constituent Assembly’s 1950 pronouncement and reinforced by Parliament’s amendment extending statutory in 2026 to protect the national song at par  with Jana Gana Mana by Parliament in 2026
To oppose every attempt to subordinate the national anthem to communal pressure, political appeasement or narrow vote-bank politics 
Will remind the Congress that no resolution of its Working Committee cannot override India's constitutional institutions and the laws enacted by Parliament. A political settlement of 1937 cannot override a constitutional decision of 1950 and a law enacted by Parliament in 2026 
To expose in front of the public the historical and political context in which the singing of Vande Mataram was restricted, including objections from the Muslim League and the subsequent politics of growing communal and separatist demands 
Will convey to the people the historic statement of Mahatma Gandhi in which he described Vande Mataram as an “anti-imperialist slogan” and associated with the “purest national sentiment” 
BJP will launch a nationwide campaign through which the history, meaning, national importance and glorious heritage of Vande Mataram will be spread to every corner of India 
An awareness campaign will be launched so that the complete six-stanza National Song and its history are not forgotten and the coming generations can understand how deep memories of India's independence, struggle, sacrifice and national awakening are associated with Vande Mataram
Any compromise on the honor and legacy of Vande Mataram for political convenience or appeasement will not be acceptable. This is not a matter solely related to any political party. It is a question of India's honor and the legacy of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our nation's freedom.
