Two days after the Crime Investigation Department (CID) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police raided the high security Central Jail and recovered cell phones allegedly being used by the prisoners, the devices have been sent to Chandigarh for decoding as a part of the investigation, officials said on Saturday.
“Out of total mobile phones recovered from inside the jail premises, five of the smartphones have been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh for collecting data as a part of the investigation,” sources in the prisons department said.
They said that the base model phone recovered from the jail has been sent to the Cyber Cell, Jammu.
According to sources, seven knives, ten mobile phones, (Android and base models), seven SIM cards, 12 head phones, four pen drives and USB multiport, one Samsung mobile phone battery, five chargers, two bluetooth, headphones and three data cables were recovered and taken to the Joint Interrogation Center of CID Counter Intelligence at Miran Sahib. “The probe has been initiated into how these gadgets reached inside the high security jail,” sources said.
The mobile phones have been sent to Chandigarh after clearance from the top chair of the wing, they said adding, “It will take a few days to retrieve the data from the cell phones and there is a possibility of getting important evidence from the call details of the SIM cards, found from the jail.
Sources revealed that in the preliminary investigation, it came to notice that the terrorists lodged in the jail, including some foreign terrorists, used to run social sites with the help of these smart phones. “They also used to transfer messages to Pakistan with the help of various social platforms. Information and other details are being investigated and ascertained in this context,” they said.
