A total of 85 police, security, fire service, home guards, civil defence and correctional service personnel have been selected for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) on the occasion of Independence Day 2026, according to the official list.

The awardees include senior officers as well as personnel from various ranks across State and Union Territory police forces, Central Armed Police Forces, investigating agencies and other security organisations.

Among the awardees from Jammu and Kashmir, Shoket Hussain Shah, Senior Superintendent of Police, has been named for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

The list includes personnel from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Puducherry.

Several senior officers from Central security forces have also been selected. The list includes personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Personnel from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Special Protection Group (SPG), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have also been included among the recipients.

The honours further cover personnel associated with the Department of Defence Production, Railway Protection Force, Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence Service, and Correctional Services.

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service recognises personnel for distinguished and sustained service in their respective fields. The 2026 list reflects representation from different ranks and organisations involved in policing, internal security, investigation, emergency response and correctional administration.

The recognition comes ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15, honouring personnel for their service and contribution to public safety and national security.

The official list records 92 entries overall, including 85 entries under the police service and allied security organisations followed by fire services, home guards, civil defence and correctional services.
