New Delhi :The government has blocked at least 43 mobile apps for access in India. MangoTV, AliSuppliers Mobile App, Alibaba Workbench, WeTV - TV version, WeTV - Cdrama, Kdrama&More, WeTV Lite are among the apps banned in India. The blocked list also has a number of dating apps including We Date, Singol, TrulyChinese, TrulyAsian, ChinaLove, DateMyAge, AsianDate,FlirtWish, Guys Only Dating, Rela and more. Others include short video sharing app Snack video, Business card reader app Cam Card, truck and driver aggregator Lalamove.
The action, under section 69A of the Information Technology Act, has been taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities prejudicial to India's soverignty, integrity, defence, security and public order, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a statement Tuesday. The ministry said it has issued the order for blocking the access of these apps by users in India based on the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs.
The government, in July 2020, had banned several Chinese apps amid tensions at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The apps were engaged in activities that were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India, the government had said. Popular Chinese apps TikTok, Shareit, Helo, Shein, Likee, WeChat, UC Browser were also banned. At least 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a fierce clash with the Chinese soldiers in Ladakh Galwan Valley in the month of June.
