Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has hit out at Navjot Singh Sidhu and that Navjot Singh Sidhu hugging Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa cost the Congress.

Punjab Congress remained divided ever since cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Pakistan for Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony and landed himself in a controversy after hugging Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The Congress-led a high-decibel campaign in the Lok Sabha election trying to make a match with the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) across the country. The Congress appeared confident of cashing in on the presumptive anti-incumbency against the Narendra Modi government going into the Lok Sabha election. However, there is a bright spot for the Congress in Punjab. At a time when the election result trends suggest that the Modi wave might have secured popular support for the BJP, Captain Amarinder Singh holds his Punjab fort for the Congress. The Congress’s lead in Punjab is a reflection of Captain Amarinder Singh’s leadership and it is bound to boost the voices of the section of leaders in the party that regional leaders of the Congress should be given more freedom.
