rime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Maldives on Saturday for his first trip in the second term at the Centre. PM Modi and his officials will be holding talks and inaugurate a few defence projects.
Prime Minister Modi landed in the country's capital, Male, where he is expected to hold talks with President Solih. Officials are also expected to hold delegation level talks in the evening.
The meeting shall be followed by joint Press breiefing about agreements that will be signed between the two countries.
Maldives is also planning to honour PM Modi with the Order of Nishanizzuddeen, a prestigious award in the country.
"President @ibusolih has announced his decision to confer on PM of India H.E. @narendramodi the Maldives highest honour accorded to foreign dignitaries. "The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen" during PM's visit today. Namaskar, Swagatham," Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi will also be addressing the Maldives Parliament on Saturday.
PM Modi had earlier said his visit to the Maldives and later Sri Lanka reflects the importance India attaches to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and that it will further cement ties with the two maritime nations.
