NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday summonedDelhi Police Commission Amulya Patnaik over Delhi's Hauz Qazi communal tension.Sources say that he was reprimanded by the Home Minister over the incident.
After the meeting, the Delhi Police chief said that it was ageneral briefing. The Commissioner added that four people have been arrested inconnection with the incident and two more have been identified against whomaction will be taken.
Congress has been questioning the Centre and Amit Shah fornot intervening in the matter. "Day 2 of the temple incident and no actionyet by Home Minister, Delhi Police under the BJP rules Centre. We know theruling party doesn't care about minorities but does it also not care for thesentiments of majority," Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi hadsaid in a tweet.
Meanwhile, a public interest litigation has been filed inthe Delhi High Court seeking court-monitored probe through a specialinvestigation team (SIT) in connection with the communal tension in thenational capital. The PIL has been filed by advocate Alakh Alok in the DelhiHigh Court.
Union Minister Harsh Vardhan had on Tuesday visited Delhi'sHauz Qazi area and appealed to people to maintain calm. He had said thatappropriate arrangements have been made in the area so that the situation doesnot flare up. He had added that he has asked officials to take strict actionagainst those who were involved in the incident.
"The incident in Lal Kuan area of Chandni Chowk iscondemnable. The Delhi Police is keeping an eye on the whole situation and itsfirst priority is to nab the culprits. No one can be allowed to disrupt socialharmony. The culprits will not be spared," Chandni Chowk MP Harsh Vardhanhad written in a tweet in Hindi.
