Under the guidance of Sh. Ranjan Prakash Thakur, Principal Secretary to Govt, Industries and Commerce Department the 7th edition of National Handloom Day, to Honour the Handloom Community and acknowledge their contribution towards J&K's Socio Economic Development was celebrated today by the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu.
The event witnessed participation of large number of weavers and artisans and stalls showcasing the exquisite range of handmade handloom products were also exhibited on the occasion. A large number of people visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of the Directorate in arranging such an event.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu highlighted that the main purpose of celebrating the event is to give due reorganization to the efforts and hard work put-in by the weavers community in preservation and promotion of this cultural legacy and to keep them abreast with the latest intervention taken at the behest of the Government for their welfare and further development of the sector. 
Appeal to the general masses was made to strengthen the "Vocal for Local campaign", come forward and support the sector by purchasing the handloom product to reiterate their support for weavers by enhancing the spirit of #MyHandloomMyPride
The weaver community was apprised that keeping in view the latest market trends and developments, the Department has launched specific initiatives like Credit Card Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Weavers Mudra Scheme and Financial Support scheme-to address the credit needs,  design innovation and packaging-for value addition of handloom products, GI Registration-for brand building, on boarding on e-marketing platforms and GeM  registration-for extending marketing reach etc. for overall development of the sector and they were encouraged to come forward to avail benefit of these scheme.
On the occasion, appreciation Certificates were distributed amongst various weavers besides newly registered cooperatives were also issued registration certificates. The Weavers also shared their experience and appreciated the efforts being made by the department towards the development & upliftment of the sector. A documentary highlighting the efforts put-in by the weaver's community in making various handmade products was also unveiled on the occasion.
